Brass Sustainability
IS BRASS SUSTAINABLE?
Through traditional methods of metalsmithing and fabrication, I currently create each piece of jewelry by hand. Not only are they handcrafted, which is by default is an intrinsically more sustainable practice, but it's largely recycled.
A fascinating, yet little known secret is that the brass manufacturing industry actually depends on recycling scrap brass.
And it's all possible because brass can (amazingly) be recycled over and over again and still retain 85% of its value. This makes brass one of most sustainable metals with a lower carbon footprint.
Not only is all of Mahnal's jewelry handcrafted and domestically sourced in solid brass, but uses small batch production.
These are key elements that help to make Mahnal a more sustainable brand. Along with using compostable and biodegradable packaging, we continue to work to progress in the area of sustainability not only with brass, but across the board as a brand.
